EMBRACING WORK AS GOD’S GIFT
"Then the LORD God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to tend and keep it." Genesis 2:15 (NKJV)
Dear Christian Entrepreneur,
The first instruction God gave to humanity was to "work" (ʿābad), which means to "cultivate." In Genesis 2:15, God placed Adam in the Garden of Eden to "work it and keep it." This directive was not merely about physical labor; it was a divine call to stewardship and care for God's creation. It signifies that humans are to engage in meaningful activity—cultivating not just the earth but also their talents, relationships, and spiritual lives.
As a Christian in business, it's crucial to understand work through a biblical lens. Work is not just a means to earn a living or gain material wealth; it's a sacred duty, an opportunity to participate in God's creative process. When we work, we bring order and productivity out of chaos, reflecting God's image by being purposeful and productive.
In its purest form, work is an act of worship. It is a way to honor God by using the gifts and abilities He has given us to make a positive impact on the world. Whether in business, art, agriculture, or ministry, every task we undertake is a vital part of our walk with God.
Work serves as a reminder that we are designed to be co-laborers with God, shaping and enriching the world He created. Embracing this scriptural perspective on work helps us see it as a blessed opportunity to fulfill our God-given potential and contribute to His kingdom on earth.
Prayer for the Day:
Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of work and the opportunity to partner with You in cultivating and enriching the world. Help me to see my work as an act of worship, and guide me to use my talents and abilities to glorify You. May my efforts today reflect Your divine purpose and contribute to Your kingdom. In Jesus' name, Amen.
